The Food Craft Institute – Mysore is located at Kannada Karanji Building, Dasara Exhibiton Grounds, Mysore, Karnataka, is jointly established by the Govt. of India & Govt.of.Karnataka and managed by Board of Governors . The Principal Secretary , Tourism Department Govt of Karnataka is the Chairman for the Board, and the institute was started mainly to train and provide jobs to the youth in the various sectors of the hospitality industry, and to develop entrepreneurs. Hospitality industry has the potential of offering millions of direct and indirect job opportunities to the trained manpower.
The programs offered by the FCI are under the aegis of National Council for Hotel management and catering technology, Noida and the course design lays emphasis on producing operational and managerial staff for the hospitality industry. The course covers the planning and preparation of about 200 Indian and International dishes, the various aspects of Hygiene, Nutrition etc. A person who completes this course can join a Five star Hotel as a Chef and go on to become the chief of a section of a kitchen, the asst. Chef and finally the Chef De Cuisine or Manager of Food Production. Special emphasis is placed on discipline, grooming and hard work.
Baking is an art which is in great demand today and baking is an industry in itself, both in the Hotel Industry and as a stand alone Industry The demand for good Bakers is ever on the rise. A candidate who completes this course learns the theory and practice of Baking, breads, bread rolls, cakes, pastries, cookies and their garnishes etc and has a great scope and career path
The Food Service Industry is one of the largest among the service industries in the world today. This course deals with the formal service of food and beverages in Star Hotels, Cruise Liners etc at the various outlets like Restaurants, bars, banquet halls etc. Communication in English, personality development and computer knowledge is part of this course. Anyone who takes up this course can enter the Hotel Industry as a waiter and can rise up to Sr. Waiter, Captain, Restaurant Manager, Banquet Manager, Food & Beverage Manager and General Manager.
House Keeping is basically the provision of a clean, comfortable and safe environment . On arrival, the guest enters the foyer and gains an impression of the establishment from what can be seen mainly from the appearance that it presents. Then after the check-in, the guest goes to the lift, staircase or corridor to reach the allocated room or even lounge & public areas. By this time, he/she takes a closer look at the cleanliness, décor, furnishing etc. Thus, the prime aim of this well-structured syllabus is to provide a unique balance between theoretical and practical inputs with the help of advance teaching aids & six month’s Industrial exposure training.
This course deals with the reservation, registration and sale of guest rooms in a hotel. Receiving of guests at the Lobby, allotment of rooms and collecting payment from the guests are all part of the work of this section. Hotel Reception, Book Keeping, Tourism and Computers with special software training, are all part of the subjects taught in this course. A person who completes this course joins the Hotel Industry as a Front Office Assistant, goes on to become a Guest Relations Executive, Front Office Supervisor, Asst Front Office Manager, Lobby Manager, Front Office Manager and General Manager. As per surveys conducted to assess requirement of trained manpower for the hospitality sector, it has been established there is greater demand for skilled manpower rather than for managers. All the hospitality organisations be it a hotel, restaurant, fast food outlet, resort, railways, airlines, cruise liners and other allied industries, all require trained personnel to man their operations. The Food Craft Institute Hassan offers seven different trade diplomas and craftsmanship courses to cater to the needs of such establishments which are popular with the student community as it guarantees them jobs in the hospitality industry immediately on completion. The courses are the core areas of food and beverage operations. It is open to 12th pass students for diploma of 10 +2 system and 10th pass for craftsmanship course who must have studied English language as one of the subjects.
